In Years 10 and 11 pupils follow the EDEXCEL GCSE Religious Studies, Specification A: Faith and Practice in the 21st Century
In Year 10 – pupils cover Area of Study 1: Catholic Christianity. This contains four units consisting of Beliefs and Teachings, Practices, Sources of Wisdom and Authority, Form of Expression and Ways of Life.
In Year 11 pupils cover Area of Study 2: Judaism and Area of Study 3: Philosophy and Ethics
Area of Study 2: Judaism contains two units consisting of; Beliefs and Teachings and Practices and Area of Study 3: Philosophy and Ethics; contains two units consisting of; Arguments for the Existence of God and Religious Teaching on Relationships and Families in the 21st Century.
Mode of GCSE Assessment
The pupils’ progress throughout the year will be assessed on classwork, home learning, oral contribution, assessment tasks and end of Unit tests. However, the final GCSE exam is three 100% Linear Examinations.
Pupils will be examined on all 3 Areas of Study at the end of Year 11.
Area Study 1 Catholic Christianity: 1 hour and 45 minutes Examination
Area Study 2 Judaism: 50 minutes Examination
Area Study 3 Philosophy and Ethics: 50 minutes Examination
