Our Support Centre offers guidance, counselling, pupil support and a safe haven for young people and their families in times of stress. We aim to support students who are experiencing social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
We believe that students need to feel happy and secure within school in order to achieve the best outcomes for themselves. Within our supportive environment, we aim to raise self-esteem and independence to thrive in mainstream school by promoting comfort and a sense of healing.
The St Anthony Support Centre was initially formed by Mrs Kay, who was one of our Higher Level Teaching Assistants from 2005 to 2011. There are now four members of staff who work at the Support Centre – Miss Philpott and Mrs Vernon who are Nurture Mentors, Mrs Hawkrigg who is our Teacher Mentor and Mr Charnley who is our Counsellor.
Lessons at the St Anthony Support Centre are based on small groups or one to one sessions depending on the young person’s needs.
We offer lessons that promote:
Self-Esteem, Friendships, Language & Communication, Life Skills, Coping with exam stress, Positive Behaviour and Anger Management.
The centre also aims to increase conflict resolution skills, to develop responsibility for personal actions and to encourage students to manage their feelings and emotions.
Breakfast Club is also offered to students who use our support centre. Toast, Tea, Cereals and Juice are all on offer at our breakfast club. We also have a special breakfast treat on Fridays—Nutella and Hot Chocolate!
The Breakfast club opens at 8.15 am, providing students with a good start to the day in a relaxed home-like environment, as we understand that mornings can be busy!
