Our preparations for transfer from Primary to Secondary school begin early in Year 6. The majority of students are from our associated primary schools and have already met several staff from St. Joseph’s through Primary visits. Some students will have also had regular contact with the school if they were involved in the nurture group.
We have a specialist KS2/KS3 Transition Co-ordinator, Miss Prunty who assists the transition of children from primary to secondary school and organises activities and induction events to help you and your child settle into St. Joseph’s. If you do have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Miss Prunty. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions over the summer.
On the Induction Days, the new intake meets together for the first time as a whole year group. The students are introduced to their Manager of Learning, their Form Tutors and their new peers.
The children visit when the rest of the school is in session for two days. The purpose of this is to provide a flavour of daily life here. They will dine in the main hall at lunchtime and will travel on the normal school buses. The first morning includes a Music lesson in preparation for a special transition mass. There are opportunities to sample lessons and to spend time with the form tutors again.
The new students take home their own Induction booklet which aims to answer any questions or concerns they might have about daily routines at school. This also includes the Parents’ booklet containing all the information parents might need to help their child settle into secondary school life here at St Joseph’s. This booklet can be downloaded below.
We hold meetings with parents to inform them a little more about St Joseph’s and to introduce the Year 7 Manager of Learning and the six form tutors within the Year 7 Pastoral Team. Other events happening include a summer school held at school, taster lessons, Math’s challenge plus much more!
We are extremely proud of our strong links with parents and we hope that you and your child have an enjoyable five years with us.
