St. Joseph’s is a Voluntary Aided school in the trusteeship of the Salford Diocese, established in 1963 and conducted in accordance with the rites, practices and observances of the Roman Catholic Faith.
In 2018 governors, staff, students, parents and carers reviewed our mission and devised the following mission statement to reflect the work of our school. Students were keen to make the mission statement an acrostic poem using ‘Joeys’ as the lead word. People who are connected to our community in any way are affectionately known as ‘Joeys’. To be a ‘Joey’ means to live out our school mission and people often use the phrase ‘Once a Joey, always a Joey’. Once you have experienced the mission and values of our community they will stay with you forever.
The Aims of St. Joseph’s RC High School:
- Use Christ as a model for our personal behaviour, treating every individual with love, respect and fairness.
- Provide wide-ranging and learning experiences for students of all abilities, so that they can develop their talents in a secure, happy and stimulating environment.
- Establish a framework within which self-discipline can develop and self-esteem be fostered.
- Encourage an understanding of the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, respect for religious and moral values and an attitude of tolerance and understanding towards other religions, races and ways of life.
- Help students to understand the world in which they live and foster an awareness of their responsibilities towards others in their local, national and global community.
- Encourage students to acquire knowledge, qualifications and skills relevant to adult life and employment in a rapidly changing world.
Our Ambition
“‘I will be found by you’ says the Lord ‘when you seek me with all your heart’” Jeremiah 29:12-13 #You will be found
“Our ambition is for St Joseph’s to offer an outstanding experience for our young people. It will be a place where, due to a strong sense of belonging young people achieve beyond their own imaginations. Progress outcomes for all students but especially for the most able, disadvantaged and those with SEND will be above national. There will be stability in staffing as staff members enjoy good job satisfaction and gain from the school’s commitment to career development for all. St Joseph’s will be a desirable place to work and learn as Learning and Teaching will be characterized by practitioners who are hungry to grow, learning from each other, developing practice to have more profound impact on the lives of young people. The school environment will be increasingly inspiring and with an increase in PAN will be oversubscribed as parents see the life changing opportunities available to every young person through the curriculum, the bucket list and extracurricular activities such as trips and other experiences. St Joseph’s will promote academic excellence and will be an experience that enables the young person to grow into an adult who can have a positive impact on the world. Our mission will be lived not laminated as faith and spiritual experiences change lives. As we emerge from the COVID pandemic our mission is to be focused not on what is lost but what can be found. The whole school will be a mission team. Being part of our community will be a life changing adventure.”
