School Library
Our school library is located in our Learning Resource Centre, on the first floor of the Charnley Building. We believe in providing resources to our students which will aid their study and complement individual subjects, as well as their love of reading for pleasure, through the use of traditional literature and modern technology.
Our library contains almost 3000 Fiction titles, organised by genre, and in alphabetical order according to the author’s surname. There are also over 700 Non-Fiction titles, books of poetry, plays, and graphic novels, as well as a vast selection of revision guides and career resources, from Further Education literature to specially created materials from Connexions. Our displays are changed regularly to keep the latest, most relevant, and most popular titles on show, ready to loan out. We also have a selection of magazines and newspapers delivered to the library each day so that students are able to keep up to date with current affairs.
Students are able to take books out, free of charge, for loan periods of 2 weeks. Should they wish to extend this loan, they can ask our librarian Miss Heywood to renew it for them. We ask that students take care of our books in order to help us keep them for years to come!
The library space has a range of uses, from reading and studying, to a quiet place to sit with friends, and even a classroom for our fortnightly Life Skills (Literacy) classes. Computers are also available in the library for students to complete their homework, as well as checking their E-praise accounts.
Our library is open every day, before and after school, and at most breaktimes and lunchtimes. Miss Roberts also hosts Eco Committee in the library after school on Tuesdays, and Mr Sylvester hosts our Year 11 Hub after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support our Year 11s with their revision and wellbeing.
If you would like to help out in the library, please speak to our librarian, Miss Heywood. We would love for you to join our group of librarian assistants, who volunteer in the library at lunchtimes! Furthermore, if there’s a book that you would like to see in our library, please feel free to suggest it – we are always looking to grow our collection.
In accordance with the Accelerated Reading programme, our books are colour-coded to ensure our students can easily select a book that suits or challenges their reading abilities.
