What is School Clothing Allowance?

It is a benefit paid to help meet the cost of essential school clothing for children who attend full time school (but not private schools) and are in Years 7 and 9.

Do I qualify?

To qualify, you or your partner must be getting one of the following:

– Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
– Income Related Employment Support Allowance
– Income Support
– Universal Credit
– Child Tax Credit only with an annual income of less then £16,190
– Pension Credit – Guarantee Credit
– Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

How do I apply?

By visiting one of the local offices at Bolton Council, or if you live in Wigan, please click on the below link:

You do not need to make a separate claim if you are already getting or have applied for Housing Benefit / Council Tax Benefit or Free School Meals. The Council will use the information and evidence you have already provided to confirm your entitlement.

You need to provide an up to date document showing that you are getting one of the above qualifying benefits.
